The United States experiences more than 1,200 aircraft accidents annually. This means that most patrol officers will encounter responding to an aircraft crash at some point in their career.
This webinar provides the basic information patrol officers and field supervisors need for properly responding to an aircraft crash within their jurisdiction.
This webinar will cover the steps first responders should take to ensure their own safety when approaching a downed aircraft and attempting to aid any survivors. Aircraft crash sites pose many hazards from explosives, toxic chemicals and gasses, and biohazards. The webinar will include a discussion of the requirements for protecting the crash site and preserving evidence for the various investigative agencies that will be involved. Aircraft crash sites may also contain sensitive national security technology that must be protected. This course will address which federal agencies need to be contacted in the reporting of the crash. It will review the laws regarding who has jurisdiction over the crash site and investigation. Finally, the webinar will address media relations responsibilities regarding the crash.
In sum, this webinar will provide patrol personnel with useful information so that they are prepared to respond to these incidents in the most professional manner possible.
